Christmas Gift Ideas

I wasn't going to do one this year but there are lots of things I keep seeing and thought maybe it would help those of you who are stuck for ideas.

Blue Bowl - as always I do a lot of my shopping for here as I can usually find something for everyone. This year I've gone for a glug jug for my mother in law and I always get some hexagon earrings for someone.

Zoeva Brushes - these are some of my favourites (though I haven't used the whole range) and there are some great deals on sets at the moment and my go-to for contouring or foundation on my clients is the 110 Face Shape - I must have at least 5!

Atticus, Beetle & Bop - my own online stationery shop I started in lockdown and have yet to mention on here which seems a bit silly but if you need some stocking fillers, a puzzle or lovely matches (which make a fantastic house gift!) then go and have a look.

Nkuku - I always seem to find something either I want (always useful if you find you get asked what you want and have a mind blank!) or great presents for my family. The things I've got from here have been fantastic quality.

Fraser & Parsley - I love this brand, they are just a joy to follow on social media and their products are beautiful. I would love the Five Year Christmas Planner as I'm always so chaotic at this time of year and it would make a fantastic gift but I've also had my eye on the Meal Planners for ages. Try as I might to use my phone for things I still find my brain works better when I put pen to paper.

Ruby & Dot - one of my favourite small brands that I've discovered this year. I have my eye on the black sweater with gold eye jumper (because it has lightning bolts of course)

Fizz Goes Pop - another great small business and I spent a lot of time nearly buying myself these lovely lighting hoops (in green thanks!)

Spacemasks - I get these for everyone every year as they are not just an eye mask they are a ticket to some relaxation. Lie or sit down and give yourself a 10 minute break. That's what these say.

Iconic London Precision Duo Contour Pot - Quick Review

I've always though Iconic London was aimed at a younger audience and I can't try every brand because I would bankrupt myself fairly quickly but this product really appealed to me so I had to give it a go. Here's my quick review

Iconic London Precision Duo Contour Pot
Zoeva 110 Face Shape Brush

Cruelty-Free Brands

There are loads of great websites out there dedicated to cruelty-free beauty - Cruelty-free Kitty is my go-to. But I've created a phone-savable cheat sheet of brands for anyone who wants to save it to refer back too.

Makeup & Skincare favourites - July 2021

These are the products I've been using a lot over the past month - some are new, some are old favourites. Make-up application still looks a bit bizarre as my arm is still healing.

Most of these products are vegan and cruelty-free which I love and Kjaer Weis make things refillable so its a great way of reducing waste.

What's the Difference Between a Physical and Chemical Sunscreen?

What's the difference between a chemical and physical sunscreen? Well how they work to protect the skin for UV damage and what they mean for your body in general.

Physical ingredients: zinc oxide, titanium dioxide

Honest Beauty Hydrogel Cream

Anyone else find it really difficult to find a good moisturiser? One that ticks all the boxes. Me too. I try to avoid silicones in my products and I'm pretty much silicone free but I'll freely admit that my favourite moisturiser is Origins Make a Difference Plus + which not only contains dimethicone but is also not technically cruelty-free (they are owned by Estee Lauder).

I've also heard not great things about Honest Beauty but on the hunt for some new products I bought the Hydrogel Cream based on good reviews, price and ingredients and I've been using it for 3 weeks now and you know what? I really like it.

How to use the Champagne Glow Drops from LimeLife by Alcone

I am not really into highlighters but I have used these Champagne Glow Drops pretty much daily since they were launched. Out of the three colours these for me are the most versatile for all skin tones and skin types and give a glow to skin whatever the age.

Quick & Easy Brows

You can of course use any brow pencil. In this video I'm using the LimeLife Claim to Frame pencil - it's the quickest and easiest for me because it's micro-tipped with a great spoolie on the other end.

The key to great natural-looking brows is small, hair-like strokes and to follow the natural shape

30 Days of Affirmations

Gosh these are awkward. And hard. So awkward and hard in fact that I almost didn't do these. But they can make a huge difference and they don't do any hard so do it. Give yourself 30 days, keep the ones you like, adapt them to suit you but create a habit of it and see if they make a difference for you.

The idea is to say these to yourself throughout the day, ideally at the start of the day repeated 5 times to yourself in front of a mirror. Then to yourself either out loud or in your head throughout the day. If one particularly resonates with you then you can use it in conjunction with the others for the rest of the month.

Mascaras - Friday Favourites

I've been on the quest for the perfect mascara since I was about 13 and it's such personal thing that I don't claim to have found it though I have found some that I genuinely love. So here they are

  • Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara - black and smokey and giving great volume. Not cruelty-free
  • LimeLife Perfect Mascara - I'm not usually a fan of fibre mascaras but this one lengthens and volumises and doesn't make your lashes feel crispy. It's the one I rebuy over and over again
  • Maybelline Great Lash Big - I loathe the original of this but this version with a fatter brush is my go-to high street mascara. Not cruelty-free
  •  LimeLife Making Waves - I hate waterproof mascaras and i've tried lots. They are a must for any makeup artist and usually they are horrible. This one is fantastic.

Foundation Brushes - Friday Favourites

I love makeup brushes and I have a lot, but most of the time I think you really don't need that many and lots of brushes are multi-taskers. But getting the right tool and technique for your foundation application is important - I tend to switch between fingers, blender and brushes, whatever works for you is fine but I know there are loads of brushes out there to choose from so here are my favourites.

🖌️ Real Techniques Expert Face Brush - they've changed the design of this and it's not quite as lovely as the original but it's still a great size and washes well. Great for medium to full coverage. https://tidd.ly/3np4Zcm
🖌️ LimeLife Fan Brush - not my usual shape or size for foundation application but this is great if, like me, you want a lovely sheer coverage blended in to look like your skin. https://bit.ly/2LyPAbZ
🖌️ Zoeva - this is my brush of choice when working on clients as I can be precise with where I apply product and build coverage. Ideal for those with a smaller face this is the smallest of the three and it's on sale at the moment. Great for medium coverage. https://fave.co/3bk0nlk

30 Day Tech Detox

I don't know about you but my phone use sky rocketed during 2020. I was averaging over 8 hours a day and feeling terrible. Not only that but my children were watching me be a slave to a screen. Over Christmas I had some much needed phone-free time and it was incredible. So I've designed a 30 Day Tech Detox that aims to help everyone have a bit of a tech clean-up and encourage healthier habits. During a global pandemic tech has kept us connected to the loved ones we have been missing and for many of use, have kept businesses afloat. But with no basic tech hygiene in place the positives of connection and industry are getting outweighed by mental health issues, lack of sleep and the addictive qualities of social media. For those of use who suffer with depression and anxiety the last thing we need is to be comparing ourselves to other people for hours every day.

This detox doesn't aim to make you phone-free, it just helps you reevaluate how you are using your tech and to claw back some of the reality in your real life.
