Mama Mio The Tummy Rub Oil

If you've read through my previous two pregnancies you'll know that I'm a little dubious as to whether any stretch mark oils/creams/gels/potions actually work or whether it's just down to your skin, the baby, the time of year, whatever. I mean. It's a hard one to judge.I hardly used anything at all with Ned and was fine. I used Rosehip oil all the way through Jim and thought I got away with it until a sad looking (huge) jelly fish of stretch marks appeared about two days before he was born. Thanks Jim.

I jumped at the chance when offered this to try though as this is not only a bit pricier than I would normally pay - do you get what you pay for with stretch marks? But I have heard great things about it and it has a lot of good reviews.

I'm not entirely comfortable paying £27 for something that is, to my mind, not guaranteed to work. But, so far, there is not a new stretch mark in sight and a little of this goes a long way. I have been using it for three months now and I'm pretty sure it will last me until I've had the baby in July. I've been using it mostly on the bump and a bit on the tops of my thighs which are the places I usually get stretch marks. If there's any left over then after the baby is born I'll use it on my boobs as it's when the milk comes in that they tend to get stretch marks. If I run out before I have the baby I may while buy a new bottle.

On the website they recommend you will need 3 bottles to get through the pregnancy - that's based on using it twice a day from above your boobs to your thighs. I think if you are careful you could get away with 2 - I mean you don't really need it for the first 2 or so months though I guess it's good to prep the skin for the stretch. I've been using it after bathtime. I just don't have time to grease the bump up before I get dressed in the morning but then, I'm fairly philosophical about stretch marks in the first place.

The key to it being so good it the amount of Omega 3, 6 and 9 which help the skins strength and elasticity. Sacha Inchi Oil for Omega 6, Argan Kernel Oil for Omega 3 and 9 and to nourish and improve elasticity. The Tummy Rub oil also contains Avocado Oil rich in folic acid, Rosehip Oil to help scars and rich in Vitamin C and Vitamin E which helps keep skin and moisturised while helping collagen repair. The top ingredient is sweet almond oil which is something recommended for preventing stretch marks so it's reassuring to see this at the top of the ingredients list.

One thing I absolutely adore about this oil is the smell. The smell is just citrusy and fresh and lovely and the oil is pretty quickly absorbed so your not all greased up for hours but my skin definitely feels smoother and more supple. Quite often 'mum' stuff doesn't smell great - I like citrusy, quite masculine scents so this is a real winner for me on that front.

The pump does not go to the bottom of the bottle - when you feel its squirted it's last carefully unscrew and pour it into your hand. There is quite a lot left so don't do what I did and tip it all over yourself, your bathroom, your floor etc.

This is the best stretch mark oil I've tried - the smell, the feel, the fact that as of yet I have no new stretch marks. My favourite body moisturiser usually costs £5.99 so I feel like I'm not a big spender on that front so maybe £27 on this is fine. Still a bit eye-watering though.
