Mane 'n Tail Conditioner

Surely this should have an extra apostrophe? Mane 'n' Tail?

Anyway, I bought this on a whim in Liberty when I was having a lovely child-free day in Central London and forgot that I am on a total spending ban. It was only £7 which is pretty standard price for most high street conditioners so it wasn't like I was blowing the bank on hair products. That's also with the Liberty price upgrade - you can find it for more like £5. I also wanted to know if this was just a gimmick.

You see I used to have ponies when I was small. And indeed when I was less small I migrated to horses. And if I hadn't married a Londoner full of 'yes we'll move to the country' charmlies I would probably have one now. I love them. I love everything about them. Even tack cleaning and mucking out. I had fond memories of summers spent washing ponies tails in the sun and oiling hooves and I was hoping that the smell of this would trigger some sort of nasal nostalgia-fest.

It didn't. I think maybe we used a combined Mane 'n Tail or just the shampoo (which I haven't tried yet)? Or maybe this isn't actually the same formula at all. Who's to say? They claim it is and the last time I shampoo'd a horses tail I was probably 15.

So gimmick or not is it any good? I'd love to say no but I really quite like it. It smells nice, my hair is softer and not weighed down. It's silicone free which is a massive bonus and does seem to help with the post-shampoo tangles I'm always battling against. What more do you want from a conditioner. My hair is so far passed it's dye-date that it's hard to tell how shiny it makes it but I would (and will) definitely rebuy this. If it was over £10 probably not. But for £7 yes and it seems to be quite widely available as I keep seeing it in shops wherever I go now.

You can also, apparently, use this as a leave in conditioner but as someone with fine hair that has a tendency to go flat I think this wouldn't work for me. Have you tried it?
