I really like an old fashioned bristley brush and am not that fussed whether it's big or small as long as the mascara itself is properly black, which this is. The brush seems to be too big for some - I find it totally fine, it's not dissimilar to the Benefit Bad Gal one. You need to apply this from root to tip without wiggling the brush, having removed as much product as possible on the scraper. You get a lot of product on the brush and some people seem to have had problems with the mascara squidging out of the tube when you screw the lid back on. I haven't had this but I can imagine it happening - if it did I would take it back to the shop and get them to swap it.
I have a great eye lash comb on the end of an old Revlon mascara so I'm happy to comb my lashes out for a mascara that delivers on every other requirement and to have volumised, lengthened black lashes that are still soft at the end of the day is absolutely worth a few clumps for. I have used this when doing make-up for the red carpet and it looked fantastic - yes you need to apply it carefully when doing so on someone elses lashes but then you do with most mascaras. I haven't used it on a contact lens wearer so I'm can't guarantee it won't cause a reaction but then I've never had one when using the Smoky Eye mascara so I'm hoping this will be fine too.
It is definitely one of those mascara's that is easier to use when it's been open for a month and the formula is less liquid. That being said it is one of the quickest to dry out - I'd say this will do about 6 months and then you'll have to bin it. Great for someone who only wants one mascara and uses it every day but if, like me, you are a mascara whore then maybe give this one a swerve.
