I've been wanting to review this for ages but it's been hard to find a UK stockist but finally
NYX HD Eyeshadow base is available in Boots (hurrah!). As regular readers will know I find primers a tricky thing to review. I do test them using one side of my face so I can see the difference but I think often they depend on skin type, what you are wearing over them etc etc and it's the same for eye primers. Those with oily lids will need to use a primer but different forumla's will work better than others...

Bad swatch l-r: primer, shadow with primer, shadow on its own |
I don't have oily lids but I do find that quite a few higher-end palettes (it seems worse with palettes than with the individual shadows for me) don't have the longevity I'd like. This isn't a huge problem for me - I'm not expecting miracles, powder products will move and I'm a fan of a more lived-in grungy look anyway - but the simple solution is to have a good primer in your make-up collection. And this, in my opinion is the one to have.
You have no doubt have heard of the
Urban Decay Primer Potion but for a slightly more affordable option NYX have done it again with this High Definition Eye Shadow Base. Easy to apply with the soft doe foot applicator this not only evens out the skin tone of the lids, with a matte finish, it leaves a really nice smooth surface that will not only hold the colour for longer but will give your colour a bit of oompf, as shown in my swatch above using Satin Taupe from MAC.
What I love about NYX is they bring out products that other more affordable brands don't and the HD Shadow Base is one of these.
